Waikaranga Seal RocksWaikaranga Seal Rocks in the Tapuae Marine Reserve Here you will see probably the most prolific abundance of marine life in the Taranaki area. Over 400 species live within the reserve boundaries and you will see many of them on the inside protected side of Seal rocks. Reef fish like red moki, butterfly perch and scarlet wrasse as well as pelagic species such as John Dory, kingfish and gurnard. The rocky reefs provide homes for kina, sea cucumbers, molluscs, starfish and rock lobsters while the island provides haul out sites for the New Zealand fur seal.
