How to clean your new mask To ensure your mask is crystal clear and doesn't keep fogging up on you, all new masks must first be cleaned before adding an anti-fog treatment.
To prepare your new mask for use you will first need to remove the silicone film on the inside of the lens left over from manufacture. To do this follow these simple steps.
- First clean your hands to rid them of any oil or other residues
- Then spread a small amount of Sea Buff onto the inside lens of your mask. Sea Buff is a commercially prepared quick-clean formulation that removes the silicone residue as well as taking care of dirt, sunscreens, algae and other debris that can interfere with anti-fog treatments of your mask.
- Alternatively you can use a liberal amount of adult plain toothpaste instead but don’t use the whitening types as the chemicals can cause damage to the mask.
- Rub the Sea Buff or toothpaste into the lens, you should notice a change in the texture, it should start to feel smoother the more you rub it in.
- Once the entire lens feels smooth, wash away the residue with clean water.
- Then repeat the process once more on the inside and once on the outside of the mask lenses.
- Next perform a breath test. If the mask still fogs up inside you may want to repeat the process again until it remains clear.
