Waitotara-Patea Reef

Waitotara-Patea Reef

Waitotara / Patea Reef has a maximum diving depth of around 20 m / 60 ft and is suitable for all divers. The average visibility is 10-20 metres and access to the dive site is by shore.

Waitotara and Patea Reef are known to be some of the best cray diving sites in the north island of New Zealand. On a good day, this dive has been known to be as good as Kapiti Island, with visibility up-to 30 metres.

A note of caution: this dive is affected by strong surface currents. The area of Taranaki is known to be one of the best in New Zealand for surfing, so on large swells, diving may be dangerous.
